On March 2nd, 2015 Mitel settled an agreement to acquire Mavenir Systems, a software-based networking solution for mobile carriers. The agreement was reported the equivalence of $560 million in both cash and Mitel stock.
Mavenir’s software is for voice over LTE and voice over WiFi, IP Multimedia Subsystem, and rich communication services. After the transaction is completed, Mavenir stockholders can expect to own up to 16% of Mitel. The vision is unclear for the purchase of Mavenir, the companies do not have any crossover customers. This may be the start for Mitel to incorporate VoWi-Fi as they have the capability for it in their product line.
